But I’ll aways be a Mainah at heart. I can’t wait till August I’m finally road tripping home to show my wife my home time, and check out the Skowhegan State Fair(a big fair in my home town with lots of demo derbies), and drink like a shit ton of Moxie.
Being from Maine is’nt the only reason I love Spose, but it doesn’t hurt.

Hell. I miss Iowa, I can’t judge a “Mainah”.

Grew up in Maine, got dragged to Virginia against my will at age 12. Couldn’t understand anyone’s speech, including my English teacher. No one played hockey, and the only ice rink for miles collapsed my first winter here, during what the hillbillies locals called a “blizzard” (it snowed 14 inches...). Culture shock was an understatement.
I miss the four seasons: fall, winter, mud season and black fly season. I miss town police redirecting schoolkids on their way home because a moose is wandering around the downtown (and I use that term loosely) area. I miss Governor’s restaurant, and Napoli’s pizza. I miss being able to go for a drive and not be surrounded by billboards (why doesn’t every state adopt that law?!).
Haven’t lived there in 24 years, haven’t visited in 10. Though to this day, when I’m asked where I’m from, the answer is faithfully and proudly Maine.

Skowhegan State Fair: August 11-20.
Do you know how many heat-related fatalities we’d have if we had the Houston Rodeo and Fair in AUGUST?

Wisconsinite here. My mom’s from Maine and we still have a cottage there that we go to twice a year. It would be nice to live there, but I pay twice the taxes on my cottage than my much nicer house in Wisconsin. And I get way more services here. We want to retire closer to the cottage, but haven’t quite figured out the best place yet.
